H.O. Wolding Looks To Hire 50 Drivers To Support Growth

Amherst, Wisconsin – (November 29, 2006) – An Amherst trucking company is preparing to add as many as 50 drivers over the next several months.

H.O. Wolding, a short, regional and long haul trucking firm, is planning to enroll at least 50 students in its on-site CDL program. Individuals who successfully complete the three-week training program and earn their commercial driver's license will receive immediate consideration for the company's full-time driving positions.

According to Marc Wolding, vice president of operations, the company wants to build on its experienced team of professional drivers to meet current and future growth opportunities. The company is anticipating increasing the size of its fleet from 350 to more than 400 vehicles by the end of the year. Earlier in the year it added 100 new vehicles.

"Our business continues to grow and so does our need for drivers," Wolding says. "Despite the current driver shortage, we have successfully recruited, trained and hired drivers from every area of Wisconsin, as well as from out of state. We are continuing to try to attract good driver candidates to our school and company."

Wolding adds that the company's CDL school is state certified, has a low instructor-to-student ratio, and that financial support and housing assistance are readily available. "Students who pass the CDL and go to work for H.O. Wolding can also qualify to have their tuition costs waived," he says.

To help it attract and retain good drivers, Wolding says the company is maintaining its commitment to helping drivers achieve a satisfactory work-home balance.

"Over the years we've developed a system that lets drivers know well in advance when they'll be on the road and when they'll be at home," Wolding says. "This has been very popular at our company and has helped us maintain a strong, stable driving team.

Wolding adds that drivers can choose from long haul runs that take them to the coasts and mountain states, short haul runs that offer more at-home time or regional runs that provide a combination of the two. "We've had a lot of success with developing customized programs that address individual driver needs," he says.

Wolding says the company offers both competitive compensation and secure employment and is virtually recession-proof. "Our drivers average $51,000 per year in earnings with some making more than $70,000 a year, and in our 73 years in business we've never had a single layoff," he says.

H.O. Wolding employs more than 400 workers, serves customers over the 48 contiguous states and maintains a growing fleet or more than 350 tractors and 1100 trailers.
